The renewed certification demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental protection principles, as well as its ongoing efforts to improve operations and reduce environmental impact. Additionally, the ISO 14001:2015 certification enhances the competitiveness of the Latvian company, facilitates access to international markets, and helps build trust with partners and clients who require the highest environmental standards in their supply chains.
In order to renew the certification, JSC “Olpha” organized comprehensive training for all employees last year, with special attention given to the specific tasks of each department. These training sessions have ensured that all employees are well-informed about the environmental management system and energy efficiency requirements, as well as the actions to be taken to comply with them.
During the audit, JSC “Olpha”’s environmental management system and energy efficiency were evaluated in relation to the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, as well as other chemical substances, both inorganic and organic. Several environmental protection initiatives were also assessed, including processes for water delivery, purification and suppling, as well as wastewater collection and treatment, storage of raw materials and finished goods, and warehouse management. The certification was also conducted in accordance with the Regulations No. 487 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvija from July 26, 2016 “Eneterprise Energy Audit Regulations” Standard. Additionally, the production of electricity from renewable resources was evaluated, as since October 2024, the company has fully implemented a solar panel park with a capacity of 3.2 megawatts (MW). The total investment in the solar park construction project amounts to 3.56 million euros.
This certification renewal is a testament to our commitment not only to produce high-quality medicines but also to operate responsibly, adhering to environmental sustainability principles,” says Sandra Krivmane, Deputy Director of the Technical Department at “Olpha,” who was responsible for obtaining the ISO certification. “We are dedicated to continuously improving our environmental management system to ensure efficient energy use and reduce our operational impact on the environment.”
The certification renewal further strengthens JSC “Olpha” position as a leading pharmaceutical company in the Baltics, one that not only develops medicines but also actively invests in environmental sustainability and effective resource management. In 2024, JSC “Olpha” received the prestigious Platinum rating for the first time in the annual Sustainability Index assessment.
